CFS2 Mission - FvB_Redux_20 "Bremen Over." CFS1 mission converted for use in CFS2. Escort some Bf110's as they make their way to attack a bomber formation heading back to England after having hit Bremen. Never mind the bombers, just keep those Bf110's safe from Allied escorts, so they can do their job unhindered.

Greetings Simmers,

This is another in the long-running Redux series of CFS1 stock converted missions I seem to have devoted my life to. This is anothe of the stock missions that came packaged with CFS1. It basically devolved into a furball with no repercussions whatsoever if you blew off your duties as escort to the Bf110's. I've tried to remedy that somewhat, though results weren't as good as I'd hoped. Still, it is closer to the theme than the original version I believe.

Install: Drop mission (.mis) and dynamic (.dyn) files into your CFS2/mission folder. Thats it, if you have all the needed files required, it should work fine. If not, check in your root CFS2 folder and look for the file "error.log" and open it with notepad. It will tell you exactly what the problem is. Usually it is an airplane folder spelled differently or something else minor along those lines.

Copy the sound files spitwin and spitlose from your CFS2/sound folder to your CFS2/sound/action folder so they can be heard in the mission. If they are already there, then you can skip this step.

WARNING: I would strongly suggest you not run this mission through the mission builder, as much hand editing was done that the mission builder will overwrite and you'll likely end up with a mess. You'd have to know how to hand edit the dynamic file to be able to access some parts of it anyway, as several multiple and/or triggers have been added.

NOTES: I've stayed close to the other "Bremen" missions here due to the fact that the ai units are responding pretty nicely and I see no need to screw that up for the sake of something "prettier" to the eye. So, I've stuck with the stock Lightning and B24 for most of this series. I've stayed with Akemi's Bf109g6r6 for the same reason. It is an excellent ai plane, with only marginal problems that I can absolutely live with for the trade-off in performance. So, even though, a regular 109g6 would be the more likely plane used for this escort role, I can overlook that due to the ai performance of the g6r6, and the need for downloading less planes by you the end user. I also went with James Grimes' Bf110, as it was the most dependable in the attack bomber role.

I've also decided to get some extra mileage out of the wonderful Oldenburg scenery of David Mangum, so I moved the original starting point from Rotenburg to Oldenburg.

This mission was designed to be played at 95-100% settings in warp mode. I cannot guarantee it will play as it should if you should choose to fly it in real time, but it should be ok. Again, no promises though.

THE MISSION GOAL: These escort missions are very tricky to decide on what the actual goal should be. In the end, I decided that our duty was going to be for half the bombers to remain alive by the time we escorted them out of the danger zone (a roughly 45 mile radius). The downside to this is that you can lose this mission through no fault of your own by simply having three of the 110's shot down by the bomber formation they are attacking. I hated to settle on this goal for that reason, but there you have it. Not a lot of other options, and I just don't like the automatic goal of surviving, so I pretty much always delete it with hand editing. The fact that you can bail out at any point during a mission and have it counted as a success just doesn't cut it with me. So there you have my reasoning on the mission goal.
